This software currently exists on the WEA Test Department Server in the directory "/WEA/inst.images/DB2.Version8" as a file "DB2_V81_ESE_AIX5_3264_SBCS.tar", as well as the untarred version in directory "/WEA/inst.images/005_ESE_AIX5_3264_SBCS". In that directory, the utility "uncompress" has been used to uncompress the file "ese.sbcs.tar.Z". The resulting "ese.sbcs.tar" has been untarred also to create several directories, including the directory "ese.sbcs", which contains the installation script.
1) You must first increase the file size of the "/usr" directory. From the AIX Command Prompt, type the command "chfs -a size='+3000000' /usr" to increase the file size to accomodate the 1.32 Gigabyte required for DB2 installation.
2) Go to the directory "/WEA/inst.images/DB2.Version8/005_ESE_AIX5_3264_SBCS/ese.sbcs", and type "./db2_install", then press the "Enter" key.
3) When prompted to specify the product to install, type "DB2.ESE", then press "Enter". Wait several minths.
4) Several filesets will be installed on the OS, as well as the "db2setup" utility will be installed.
5) From the "/WEA/inst.images/DB2.Version8/005_ESE_AIX5_3264_SBCS/ese.sbcs" directory, from the AIX Command prompt, type "./db2setup", and press "Enter".
6) In the "IBM DB2 Setup Launchpad" GUI, click "Install Products".
7) In the "Setup" panel, select "DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition", then click "Next".
8) In the "Welcome to the DB2 Setup Wizard" panel, select "Install additional features" and "Create a new DB2 instance or set up and existing DB2 instance", then click "Next".
9) In the "Select the installation type" panel, select "Typical 10-30 MB" and click "Next".
10) In the "Select the installation action" panel, select "Install DB2 UDB Enterprise Server Edition on this computer", and "Save your settings in a response file", then click "Next".
11) In the "Set user information for the DB2 Administrator Server", for the "Password" and Confirm Password" fields, enter "ibmdb2", accept all other remaining defaults, then click "Next" ("New User" is selected, "User name" was "dasusr1", for the "UID", "Use default UID" was selected, the "Group name" was "dasadm1", for the "GID", "Use default GID" was selected. The "Home directory" was "/home/dasusr1".)
12) In the "Set up a DB2 instance" panel accept the default "Create a DB2 instance - 32 bit", then click "Next".
13) In the "Select how the instance willl be used", accept the default "Single-partition instance", then click "Next".
14) In the "Set user information for the the DB2 instance owner" panel, select "New user", and for the "User name" field, enter "wasinst", and for the "Group name" field enter "wasgrp". For the "Password" and "Confirm password" fields, enter "wasinst", then click "Next" ("Home directory" will become "/home/wasinst").
15) In the "Set user information for the fenced user", in the "Password" and "Confirm password" fields, enter "ibmdb2", accept the remaining defaults and click "Next" ("New User" was selected, "User name" was "db2fenc1", for the "UID", "Use default UID" was selected, the "Group name" was "db2fgrp1", for the "GID", "Use default GID" was selected. The "Home directory" was "/home/db2fenc1".)
16) In the "Select the metadata you want to prepare" panel, select "Do not prepare any metadata at this time", then click "Next".
17) You will be presented with a "Warning" pop-up stating you chose not to prepare the warehouse control database, click "OK" in the pop-up.
18) In the "Set up the administration contact list" panel, select "Local - Creae a contact list on this system", and disable the "Enable notification" field, then click "Next".
19) You will be presented with a "Warning" pop-up stating no Notification SMTP server has been specified, click "OK" in the pop-up.
20) In the "Specify a contact for health monitor notification" panel, select "Defer this task until after installation is complete" field, then click "Next".
21) In the "Set up Informix data source support" panel, select "Defer this task until after installation is complete" field, then click "Next".
22) In the "Start copying files and create a response
file" panel, in the "Response file name" field, enter the name you would
like the response file saved to, then click "Finish". After several seconds
the "Setup is complete" panel is displayed suggesting you perform other
actions including run "First Steps" (using the utility "db2fs"). Click
"Finish"
At this point your DB2 has been installed and your "wasinst" user has been created. You can attempt to install the sample database or other activities, however, some might require the installation of Java 1.3.1. For instructions on how to install this product see Installing Java 1.3.1 On AIX
1) Once Java 1.3.1. is installed, as "root", from the AIX command prompt type "xhost +".
2) Switch users to "wasinst" (i.e "su - wasinst"), and export your display variable (i.e "export DISPLAY=yourmachinename.raleigh.ibm.com:0.0", where "yourmachinename" is your box name (i.e. "wea2aix8")).
3) Run the DB2 utility First Steps (i.e. "db2fs &"), and create a sample database (or whatever you want to do).
4) Run the DB2 Control Center (i.e. "db2cc &"), to look at databases,etc.
